Dr Jemell Geraghty – RCNi Nurse Awards Wound Prevention and Treatment finalist

People who experience homelessness and people with a history of addiction
whether alcohol or drugs are on the margins and I think it’s about including that
in general healthcare and for me, it’s a tissue viability perspective so they went away with a diary and they wrote and they drew,
they wrote poetry, they drew their leg ulcer so they were able to go away
and think ‘what does this mean to me?’ I think in the first instance, it gave them
a voice I think it gave them the means
to express how they lived every day with this wound so their words, on a daily basis but all the time, trying
to bring us closer together clinician and patient trying for us to understand
the different worlds that we live in Because if we can understand that
then we can treat people
