Bob Eubanks on the longevity of “The Newlywed Game” – TelevisionAcademy.com/Interviews

what makes it so perennial because it’s
such a great format it’s it’s like it’s like family feud it’s such a great
format it’s you people can relate to those couples I can hear them when I say
you know what’s your husband’s most annoying habit I can hear
Martha saying I know what yours is turkey you know you you know you you
know have a gas problem at night you know I mean things like that I mean so
it’s it’s so relatable the humor is so relatable and that’s what I think makes
the show successful now they’re gonna mess it up by by going too far with it
because you have no place to go material-wise question wise risque wise
yep you have no place to go and at some point you turn off your audience when
you get to risque you mean they’re taking the teddy off the lady they’re
taking the teddy off the lady you’ve often referred to the newlywed game
years as your best ever yes well I think my accountant probably
thought it was the best ever to if you came to me and said you know you you can
do card sharks for the next five years our newlywed game for the next five
years I’d probably pick card choice because it was a little more challenging
however I did get a huge a huge emotional kick by manufacturing a half
hour of humor and competing against the big guys that was what I thought was
cool
